Chapter 22: Darkness
[Name] slowly opened her eyes in the morning and yawned, sitting up.
She looked over at the window to see Jack had fallen asleep where he was sitting.
She sighed and smiled, and then wrote a note telling him that she was going for a walk.
[Name] grabbed her trench coat and slipped it on before walking downstairs and opening the door to leave the house.
She looked at the snow covered ground as she veered off of the cement to feel the cold on her bare feet. Jack must be rubbing off on her, she's bare foot almost everywhere she goes now.
[Name] began to walk toward the forest and took a natural path, admiring the beauty of the icicles hanging from tree branches and the glow of the sunlight against the snow.
She spotted a frozen lake and ran towards it. Placing a hand on it, she pressed down gently, causing the ice to crack.
"Well, I'm not walking on that," she muttered to herself as she wiped her hand off on her coat.
[Name] stretched and noticed a tree with fairly sturdy branches and began climbing it until she was halfway to the top. She sat down on the nearest branch as close as she could to the trunk and stared out into the forest, watching the blinking lights of her town in the distance.
[Name] smiled and admired the view, but her eyes began to widen in fear as she heard something that sounded like somebody drawing back a bow and arrow.
Before she could turn to see what it was, something pierced her back and shattered; her eyes widened further as it pushed her off the trunk, causing her to fall and land in a pile of snow.
It felt as though she was shot with an arrow, but there wasn't one--only black sand.
Her vision began to fade out and the last thing she heard was Jack frantically calling her name.
I like it.
